The Project envisages storage of seventy eight.00TMC of water at F.R.L. +100.58M. The contemplated ayacut below the project is five, 84,500 acres in SPSR Nellore and Prakasam Districts. Out of that stabilization of wet ayacut below Pennar Delta Kanupur canal system and existing tanks in uplands is four,05,500acres and new I.D.is1, 79,000 acres. Out of the higher than ayacut, Associate in Nursing extent of eighty-two,500 acres stabilization and one,35,000 new I.D is below Somasila Project canals viz., GKNC Canal (North Feeder Channel ), south feeder channel and Kavali canal.The allocation of water for the higher than ayacut is sixty.892 TMC. It conjointly envisages to transmit thirty.00 TMCof water to Kandaleru Reservoir below Telugu Ganga Project for irrigating three, 00,000 Acres of I.D. ayacut in Nellore and Chittoor Districts besides fifteen.00 TMCof avatar water to Chennai town for water functions. additionally to the higher than two.40 TMC of water was allotted to Nellore, Kavali, Gudur and Tirupathi cities for water wants.
The Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board has sanctioned two x five M.W. mini HydelScheme for Power Generation at Somasila Dam, Nellore District for captive utilization in G.O. M.S.No.180, dated 29.12.1994 in favor of M/s.Balaji Power Corporation non-public restricted. and the govt. in G.O.Ms.No.100 I& CAD. TGP-I(2) Department, dated 9.7.1999 have issued no objection certificate at hand over the theme to the same firm for implementing the facility Project. consequently the firm has dead the mini Hydel Project together with civil, electrical and mechanical works and water is being equipped to powerhouse and project is commissioned within the year throughout Gregorian calendar month two005and it's increased to 2 X six MW i.e. 12 MW. Approval accorded for an extra capability of eleven MW and can get operation in due course. from this water is releasing to k r dam for the purpose of drinking water '
